What's your philosophy/approach for working with oral features in student writing?
My philosophy for working with oral features in student writing is to approach their oral features in ways that are culturally sensitive and informative but at the same time, supportive as well. When working with students with oral features, it is important to approach them with open mind and willingness to communicate about their situations. Oral features can occur in various student writings no matter their native and non native status. My key strategy is communication and explanation.
Things to think about: what are some of the benefits of dialects in written language? What is SLIP and how does this become a problem in written language?
